English Connolly leather as originally specified in all Jaguar
cars from the first to the current (new models).
Modern Connolly Leather is vat dyed (not surface colored) auto
hide 1.1 to 1.4 mm thick. See, feel and smell the difference.

Jaguar used rexine, a thin early foreunner of vinyl that is no longer made. By the time they produced the XK150 they introduced vynide/vinyl, a thicker better quality vinyl that did not have a stretch knit backing. The use of correct vinyl allows for panel work and body covering to be a well defined/crisp finish as original. Some later vinyl/vynide were also offered in an antique finish. The valley of the grain on the vinyl being slightly darker as seen on original Jaguar colours, Light Beige, Cinnamon, Light Grey etc., see the differences. Please note the use of stretch back/thicker amblas, give panel work that chubby, naugahyde look which effects the look and fit of panels within your car especially when finishing strips are used, i.e chrome cantrails in E.Type FHC.

Ambla is vinyl with an expandable knit backing introduced
by Jaguar in 1968. It was primarily used on seats, i.e back
covers and cushion skirts, where a material with stretch was
needed. Ambla was also specified by Jaguar for door panels
which had embossed heat weld lines, i.e XJ/XJS. A very necessary
product for seats and doors only. Jaguar cars never specified ambla on any panel work in any
XK or E Type model range.

Woolcloth |
|
100% Woolcloth was used on all Jaguar cars until approximately
1971, in backed and unbacked versions. Unbacked 100% woolcloth was used in all XK DHC/FHC and MK.I,
MK.II, MK.V and MK.7/8/9 Saloons. The headliner in these models
were sewn. However, starting with the E.Type FHC, Jaguar produced
a woolcloth with a 1/4 latex closed cell foam backing.
This backing was cold poured directly to the woolcloth forming
a bond with the woolcloth material. This was a costly way to
back the woolcloth, that was then glued directly to the roof.
Cheaper methods, i.e open all polyfoam, laminated and glued
to woolcloth were considered but were not suitable for the high
heat application found in roof headliner applications. With
this method of headliner construction perfected with the introduction
of the E.Type FHC, Jaguar continued to specify this material
in all S.Type 420/MK.10 420G, Daimer 250 V8, E.Type 2+2.
After
1971 synthetic headliner was used. See the difference, ask for
samples. Please carefully compare our correct factory original
samples to those that others supply. BAS Ltd. is the only Jaguar
interior supplier in the USA using this correct headliner.
