IMPORTANT THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A COMPANY
TO SUPPLY A NEW INTERIOR FOR YOUR JAGUAR CAR

The following is a guide to help understand and see the difference in material samples supplied by BAS Ltd and others. We encourage you to directly compare samples of all materials presented by all companies. After all you should do a little homework prior to a large ticket (interior kit) purchase via mail order based on small samples. Please note BAS Ltd is currently the only Company in North America to supply ALL the correct style material listed below.

Wilton Wool Carpet

100% pure wool, high pile, low sheen, yarn dyed for rich color that lasts. Rubber backed for long life. Wilton wool carpet is the ultimate in luxury for any classic sport car. Available in 13 colors: Black, Red, Maroon, Dark Blue, Sky Blue, Grey, Stone Grey, Cinnamon, Biscuit, Light Beige, Dark Green, Suede Green and Tan.

Leather

English Connolly leather as originally specified in all Jaguar cars from the first to the current (new models). Modern Connolly Leather is vat dyed (not surface colored) auto hide 1.1 to 1.4 mm thick. See, feel and smell the difference.

Vinyl

Jaguar used rexine, a thin early foreunner of vinyl that is no longer made. By the time they produced the XK150 they introduced vynide/vinyl, a thicker better quality vinyl that did not have a stretch knit backing. The use of correct vinyl allows for panel work and body covering to be a well defined/crisp finish as original. Some later vinyl/vynide were also offered in an antique finish. The valley of the grain on the vinyl being slightly darker as seen on original Jaguar colours, Light Beige, Cinnamon, Light Grey etc., see the differences. Please note the use of stretch back/thicker amblas, give panel work that chubby, naugahyde look which effects the look and fit of panels within your car especially when finishing strips are used, i.e chrome cantrails in E.Type FHC.

Ambla

Ambla is vinyl with an expandable knit backing introduced by Jaguar in 1968. It was primarily used on seats, i.e back covers and cushion skirts, where a material with stretch was needed. Ambla was also specified by Jaguar for door panels which had embossed heat weld lines, i.e XJ/XJS. A very necessary product for seats and doors only. Jaguar cars never specified ambla on any panel work in any XK or E Type model range.

Woolcloth

100% Woolcloth was used on all Jaguar cars until approximately 1971, in backed and unbacked versions. Unbacked 100% woolcloth was used in all XK DHC/FHC and MK.I, MK.II, MK.V and MK.7/8/9 Saloons. The headliner in these models were sewn. However, starting with the E.Type FHC, Jaguar produced a woolcloth with a 1/4” latex closed cell foam backing. This backing was cold poured directly to the woolcloth forming a bond with the woolcloth material. This was a costly way to back the woolcloth, that was then glued directly to the roof. Cheaper methods, i.e open all polyfoam, laminated and glued to woolcloth were considered but were not suitable for the high heat application found in roof headliner applications. With this method of headliner construction perfected with the introduction of the E.Type FHC, Jaguar continued to specify this material in all S.Type 420/MK.10 420G, Daimer 250 V8, E.Type 2+2.

After 1971 synthetic headliner was used. See the difference, ask for samples. Please carefully compare our correct factory original samples to those that others supply. BAS Ltd. is the only Jaguar interior supplier in the USA using this correct headliner.

Synthetic Headliner

Brush Nylon. Jaguar cars used this product for all headliners 1971 on through the current range. Please note the correct English made synthetic headliner comes with a satin knit back on the backing of the 1/8” polyfoam. BAS currently uses the correct factory original satin back synthetic headliner supplied to us from the same manufacture mill that currently supply Jaguar Cars Ltd. Compare our samples to the domestic copy with 1/8” open cell polyfoam with no satin back.

Bitumen Board

Black weatherproof board with high bitumen resin content. Made in England used by Jaguar Cars XK & E Type early saloons. BAS Ltd. is the only Jaguar interior supplier in the USA using this correct bitumen board.

English Natural Jute Underfelt

In 1/2” and 5/8” thickness with distinctive black rubber coat topping sealer. Made in England specified by Jaguar Cars from the XK to the XJ Series II. This heavy weight material is essential to give your Jaguar that now famous, quiet ride. Don’t confuse this product with lightweight domestic synthetic felt (chopped up rags and fiber composite). BAS Ltd. is the only Jaguar interior supplier in the USA using this correct English underfelt.

Hardura

1/8” thick jute felt with embossed grain PVC face specified by Jaguar Cars from the XK’s to the XJ Series II.

Moquette

Short nap 100% English woolcloth specified by Jaguar Cars for the XK/E Type/early Saloons used as body covering material and on the rear panels of front seating.

English Everflex Vinyl

Made in England, this hardwearing material has a grain that is the closest to Jaguar factory original tops. The inner lining is grey or light tan cotton. English Everflex is the best quality vinyl material for convertible top application. How good? Rolls Royce have used this product for 35 years. (Available in 10 colors)

Sunfast/Stay fast/Mohair Cloth

Original Jaguar specified Wigan cloth/mohair is no longer made. This modern convertible top replacement acrylic material is a far superior product that resists fading and shrinking. Sunfast is the number one choice of many “show car” owners. (Available in 10 colors)
